Yvonne Broeren

Contemporary Dutch Painter

Where are you from originally and where are you based currently?

I was born in the Netherlands and I have lived here for all my life. For the past 34 years I have been living by the sea in Ouddorp in the Netherlands.

How long have you been an artist?

For as long I can remember I have been drawing and painting. In 2003, I started with a part-time art academy and over the last ten years I’ve been selling my work as a professional.

Is there a theme to your work?

I’m always inspired by the shapes and color of nature, the clouds/sky and the sea. I’m trying to translate an atmosphere or feeling into paint/mixed media, which feels so good!

Which artists or movements inspire you?

I love to go to museums and see the Old Masters for their use of color, light and shape. Sometimes people say that my work has something of William Turner.

I find ‘De Haagsche School’ interesting for the abstract impressionism. But I also love monochrome abstracts with a lot of atmosphere. They give me a feeling of ‘finding peace in the chaos’ or to focus the passion.

Why do you create?

I create because I have to 🙂 It’s necessary, it has to come out and it makes me happy.
